Frequently Asked Questions

How does the watertight door work?

The water tight door of the Harmony Tubs walk-in tub forms a hydrostatic seal when the door is closed and latched. Additionally, the weight of water inside the tub further compresses the door seal making it completely leak proof. Harmony Tubs guarantees the door seal.

Can the Harmony Tubs walk-in tub be used as a shower?

Yes, the Harmony Tubs deluxe faucet set comes with an extendable/retractable hand-held showerhead that is typically mounted onto the deck of the tub. If you choose, your installer can mount the hand held showerhead on the wall.

How are Harmony Tubs walk-in tubs installed?

A Harmony Tubs walk-in tub can be installed in as little as one day. Because Harmony Tubs walk-in bathtubs fit regular tub spaces, no major remodeling is needed. All Harmony Tubs walk-in tubs come in both left-hand and right-hand walk-in versions. Included with every tub delivery is a set of extensions that will enable an existing, standard bathtub space to accommodate the walk-in tub. Additionally, Harmony Tubs can put you in touch with a capable installer serving your locality.

Do Harmony Tubs walk-in tubs have an electrical safety certification?

Yes, Harmony Tubs is one of the few walk-in tub manufacturers with a UL certification. The UL listing provides you and your customers with a very strong indication of the safety of a Harmony Tubs walk-in bath. UL is an independent product safety certification organization who has been testing and evaluating products for over 116 years. They are world-regarded as the best in the business. More specifically, UL does extensive testing of a product against UL safety standards. If the product is approved, the product is labeled with a UL Listing Mark. Look for this UL Listing Mark…don’t buy a walk-in tub that doesn’t have this mark prominently displayed in their website, literature and on the tub.

What is better — acrylic or fiberglass?

Tub Body Construction: Acrylic walk-in tubs now on the market are generally vacuum-formed acrylic reinforced with fiberglass backing. Through the process of vacuum forming a single flat sheet of acrylic is heated and stretched over a waxed mold. Due to the greater size of walk-in bathtubs as compared to standard bathtubs, the acrylic sheet must stretch much further than normal. This stretching causes the walls and corners to become extremely thin and fragile, hence the need for a more solid fiberglass backing. Harmony Tubs has eliminated the need for cheap and fragile acrylic by producing a 100% fiberglass body, which is further reinforced in the seat, floor and tub walls for far superior strength and rigidity.

Tub Finish: Acrylic often appears plastic-like and low in quality whereas our gel coat finish has a soft and warm sheen that is pleasant to the eyes. Unfortunately, damage can occur for unforeseeable reasons and is in all likelihood unavoidable. In fact, acrylic and gel coat products are equally susceptible to surface scratching and require non-abrasive cleaners. However, damage to the thin surface of an acrylic tub is almost impossible to repair and color match, and attempts at repair can often lead to further damage. The triple-coated gel coat finish applied to every Harmony Tubs walk-in tub is meticulously and thickly applied and then buffed to a perfect sheen. If a scratch, ding or worse should ever occur to the fiberglass finish, Harmony Tub’s gel coat experts can provide a simple color-matched repair kit with thorough instructions on filling, sanding and buffing any blemish away. The whole repair process only takes about a day including dry time for any qualified handyman.

What tests are performed before the tubs are shipped?

All Harmony Tubs walk-in tubs are inspected and tested 100% at our California facility prior to shipment to our customers. Each tub’s watertight integrity is thoroughly tested as are any installed massage systems. Faucetry and all other plumbing fixtures are also thoroughly inspected for quality and fuctionality.
